Our fund's name is a nod to the term 'type two fun.' Principal Nick Ochi first learned of this term – and that various types of fun existed – about 10 years ago in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He and two friends were on a three-day backpacking trip. While struggling with the elevation, rough trails, heavy packs, and lack of familiarity with the area, Nick and his friends bumped into an older couple, also backpacking in the wilderness. The groups had a friendly conversation, and Nick’s group shamelessly complained about their struggle. The older couple sagely replied that the friends were just having type two fun, which they then explained as the type of fun that is difficult... perhaps very difficult*... at the time, but incredibly rewarding after the activity is complete.
From that day forward, Nick was able to put a simple name to the ideal of working hard for a payoff at the end, much like the journey of building and growing a business.
